I enjoyed visiting with vendors in the warm sun. Summer arrives in the Great Pacific Northwest after the 4th, or so the joke goes. I purchased vichyssoise from Got Soup?, green dragon hummus and jalepeno crackers from House of the Sun Raw Vegan Cuisine, lemon rhubarb marmelade from Deru Market, and 8 oz. of smoked sockeye salmon from Two if by Seafoods, which I first discovered via Valley Medical Center's Farmers Market.
I procured gifts, too: milk chocolate toffee from Pete's Perfect Toffee for Mom, 375 Ml of spiced blackberry wine from Rockridge Orchards & Cidery out of Enumclaw for my cousins, and a slice of three cheese woodfired pizza from Veraci Pizza for home. It took all my self-restraint to walk past the vendor selling vegan cherry chunk ice cream!
Plenty of activities abounded, too. The kids' learning table, live music, and I learned about efforts to stop pebble mining to protect Bristol Bay's wild salmon in Alaska.
Go local and benefit by walking and socializing in a market. Visit Bellevue's Farmers Market during the summer on Thursdays and Saturdays. Read more Text and Pixels' coverage of farmers markets and food and nutrition complete with my opinion on Life in a Bowl and sustainable living.
